The Palau Police is the national police force for the island state of Palau in the Pacific Ocean . An important pillar of the police force is the water police, while all matters of external security are covered by the armed forces of the United States .

history

In the 1980s and 1990s, some of the sixteen states of Palau (administrative units) still had their own police force. Today the Palau Bureau of Public Division of Marine Law Enforcement (DMLE) is responsible for maritime surveillance, fisheries protection and search and rescue missions in Palau's territorial sea and its Exclusive Economic Zone (EEZ, 200 nm around the islands). The DMLE maintains a patrol boat of the Pacific-Class , the PPS President HI Remeliik and the PPS Kedam for maritime surveillance and fishery protection. The home port is Koror .

Furnishing

In addition, the DMLE maintains three smaller 15-m "inshore patrol vessels" (patrol boats), Euatel , Kabekl M'tal and Bul , which are also used for surveillance in the territorial waters.

The Remeliik was a gift and is maintained by Australia , which also does the training for the crew. The other four boats were donations from the Nippon Foundation and The Sasakawa Peace Foundation (笹 川 平和 財 団).

Furthermore, the DMLE has a rigid inflatable boat (RIB) and a double outboard boat (twin 85 hp boat), which are only used for operations in territorial waters.

Director of the Bureau of Public Safety is Aloysius Alonz.

tasks

In addition to fisheries protection, Palau has loaned police officers to the Regional Assistance Mission to Solomon Islands (May 2006-June 2017). The Palauan Police Officer Bryson Ngiratumerang is Contingent Commander of the Palauan Police who took part in RAMSI as part of a Participating Police Force (PPF).
