The Vilnius Police are part of the Lithuanian Police in the Lithuanian capital, Vilnius . The most important police authority is the Supreme Police Commissioner of the Vilnius District (lit.Vilniaus apskrities vyriausiasis policijos komisariatas ) with 640 employees (as of 2016).
history
Today's Vilnius Police Department emerged in 1991 from the Soviet-Lithuanian Vilniaus miesto vidaus reikalų valdyba ( VRV ). On June 27, 1997, the Vilnius District Police Department was established. It reports to the Police Department at the Ministry of Interior of Lithuania . A Vilnius Police Union was established in the city in 1999 to represent officers, employees and other employees of the Vilnius police force. In 2000 there were seven municipal police stations ( miesto policijos komisariatas ) in the city of Vilnius. In Žvėrynas - Saltoniškės there is the Vilnius Police Museum ( Policijos departamento prie LRM centrinis policijos muziejus ), where the exhibitions testify to the history of the city police.
