Chemnitz Police Department

The Chemnitz Police Department is a German police department of the Saxony Police based in Chemnitz .

She is responsible for the city of Chemnitz and the districts of Central Saxony and the Erzgebirgskreis . Police chief has been Sonja Penzel since August 1, 2018 .

The police department is participating in the cooperation program for cross-border cooperation between the Free State of Saxony and the Czech Republic with four projects . The program with the goal of “European Territorial Cooperation” ( INTERREG VA) runs from 2014 to 2020.

When they were deployed in the riots in Chemnitz in 2018 , the police department and its work came under fire because, despite information from the State Office for the Protection of the Constitution, they had far underestimated the willingness to use violence and the dimension of the upcoming protests.
