history

The village was first mentioned in 1480 as a "field village". In Urbar the rule of Königsberg of 1566 the settlement as "Veldorff" is referred to and thereby also seven taxable subjects are mentioned, including the Suppan Leonhard (slo. Župan = mayor), Paule Putzko, Mathia Vellepitsch and Jacob Dobrina.

The settlement is described in the Josephine land survey (1784–1787): “Felderdorff ... stands by (the) Szotla brook, lies on the plain ... has no forest ... the path is only 4 Schuch wide ... the surrounding meadows (are) swampy bies in the dreary summer time ... ".

Even Carl dirt 1822 leads the place in his "Encyclopedia of Styria" to: "Felldorf, bey St. Peter, windisch Polle, Cillier-circle on Feistritz brook, village in the district Wisell, Parish of St. Peter bey Konigsberg, subservient to the rule Wisell . Houses 19, tenants 23, local population 119, including 59 female souls, cattle horses 5, cows 11 ”.

The place was also included in the “Lexicon of Styria” by Josef Andreas Janisch (from 1878): Felddorf, slo .: Polje, locality of the cadastral community Königsberg, local community St. Peter, judicial district Drachenburg, with 18 houses and 109 souls (54 ml., 55 wbl.), parish and schooled in St. Peter am Königsberg. Lies close to the Sottla on the Croatian border.

At the census in 1880, the Felddorf settlement consisted of the hamlet Feistritz (slo .: Bistrica) with 8 houses, 35 male, 26 female. Inhabitants and the village Felddorf (Slo .: Polje) with 9 houses, 30 male, 38 female. Inhabitants, altogether 129 inhabitants, all professed their Catholic religion and 121 stated Slovene as the colloquial language. Local residents with German colloquial language were not counted at that time.

In 1931, the village of Polje with its 119 inhabitants belonged to the municipality of Sveti Petar pod Svetimi gorami (St. Peter under the Holy Mountain) and was in the Draubanat / Dravska banovina of the Kingdom of Yugoslavia .

After the "smashing" of the Yugoslav state by the Axis powers in April 1941, the Greater German Reich also occupied Lower Styria. The "rebuilding" of administration and economy began immediately. For Polje with its Slovenian population, this reorganization resulted in almost the entire population being deported to Germany in November 1941 in the camps of the Volksdeutsche Mittelstelle (VoMi). Ethnic Germans from the Gottschee were settled in the vacated houses and courtyards .
