Kumrovec is a village and the associated municipality in the Krapina-Zagorje County in northern Croatia . In 2011 the community had 1,588 inhabitants.

Kumrovec is located directly on the Croatian-Slovenian border and is about 45 kilometers from the Croatian capital Zagreb .

History and tourism

The village of Kumrovec is known as the birthplace of the long-time Yugoslav head of state Josip Broz Tito (1892-1980). There are two attractions: Tito's birth house and the Etno-selo Kumrovec open -air museum . Next to the house is a bronze monument to Tito, created by Antun Augustinčić .

At the edge of the village there is an obelisk in memory of Antun Mihanović , who wrote Croatia's national anthem Lijepa naša domovino in 1835 .
