Poloni Prize
The Poloni Prize (original: Polonipriset ) was a national Swedish literary prize for crime literature , which was awarded briefly between 1998 and 2001 by the crime magazine Jury . Prize winners were only allowed to be crime authors. The award was named after the first Swedish crime writer Helena Poloni ( pseudonym of Ingegerd Stadener (1903–1968)).
With this award, the jury wanted to encourage the small number of up-and-coming Swedish authors observed up until the 1990s to devote themselves to the crime genre. The fact that the Swedish publishing houses had different contracts for male and female authors, the worse contracts for the women crime writers, turned out to be less lucrative. This led to the founding of the Piratförlaget in 1999 , which agreed with its authors a fairer 50% share of the profits.
In addition, female authors could hardly be identified in the literary awards of the Svenska Deckarakademin (Swedish Criminal Academy). An example was the award of the Swedish Crime Prize , which has existed since 1971, in the category of Best Swedish First Novel (Bästa svenska Debut): It wasn't until 1998 that he and Liza Marklund went to a crime writer. After the turn of the millennium, the number of female prize winners increased and became comparable to the female winners of crime literature prizes in other European countries.
