Polos painter
The Polos painter was a vase painter of the Attic black-figure style. His works are dated from around 575 to 565 BC. Dated.
The Polos painter is considered a painter with a pronounced handwriting, which does not rise above the artistic mediocrity. Stylistically, it is reminiscent of the Ragusa group, which used to be based on Corinthian vase painting . He was particularly productive. He decorated most of his vases with “degenerate animal friezes” ( John Boardman ). He got his emergency name from the crosshatched polos crowns with which he decorated the women, animals and sirens he painted . Today over 100 vases and fragments are assigned to him. His works were widespread in the Greek world, especially among more undemanding buyers: from Athens and Attica to southern Italy, Spain, Cyrenaica , Egypt to Asia Minor. He decorated all the forms of vessels that were common at the time, but preferred plates and lekanids .
