Polybius is an impact crater on the front of the moon west of Mare Nectaris , southwest of Beaumont crater and east of Fermat , east of Rupes Altai . The crater is heavily eroded, the crater floor relatively flat.

The crater was officially named by the IAU in 1935 after the Greek historian Polybios . Polybius is the English spelling of his name. An asteroid was also named after Polybios in 1996 : (6174) Polybius .
