Polychaos is a genus of bare, amoeboid unicellular organisms from the Euamoebida group .

The species of the genus can actively move, they are usually polypodial, so make many pseudopodia (pseudopodia) to move out, only occasionally monopodial, then with a bulbous UROID . The back of the cell is often characterized by bundled, fused pseudopodia remnants.
The cells are typically 50 to 400 micrometers long. The individual cell nucleus is spherical, egg-shaped or cup-shaped and often contains granules. The cytoplasm contains irregular, disc-shaped, or bipyramidal crystals, sometimes in pairs or groups. Cysts are known of some types .
Distribution and systematics
All kinds of polychaos colonize fresh water. Type species is Polychaos dubium , which was originally placed in the genus Amoeba when it was first described in 1916 and then placed in its own genus in 1926. Types include:
