Polyphron of Pherai

Polyphron ( Greek: Πολύφρων ; † 369 BC ) was a tyrant of Pherai in Thessaly .

Polyphron was a brother of the tyrant Jason , whom he was named after his murder in 370 BC. Followed together with his third brother Polydoros in the tyranny as well as in the office of the Tagos of Thessaly. In the same year he murdered Polydoros and was able to take over sole rule. Polyphron intended his tyranny over all of Thessaly expand by including in Pharsalos the old enemy Polydamas murder and eight of his followers and Larisa had to sell several distinguished citizens.

Just a year later, Polyphron was murdered by his nephew Alexandros . According to Diodorus he died of poison, according to Plutarch with a spear, which Alexandros then consecrated to the goddess Tyche .
