Pomeranian Week

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

The Pomeranian Week was the second largest regatta event in the German Reich. It took place for the last time in 1939.

In 1912 the Pomeranian regatta club was founded in the Szczecin Yacht Club. This united most of the sailing clubs in the then Prussian province of Pomerania . The first week in Pomerania was held in the same year. Between 1915 and 1919 had to be paused due to the war. The event always took place after the Kiel Week. From 1926 the Warnemünde Week was introduced as a feeder regatta for the Pomeranian Week.

In contrast to other sailing events of this size, the Pomeranian Week was divided into several venues. It usually started with a first race from Warnemünde to Stralsund and Sassnitz . Then individual races were held around Rügen , Stralsund and Greifswald . Then there was a race from Stralsund and Sassnitz to Stettin, and from there on to Swinoujscie . The highlight of the last weekend was the regatta in front of Swinoujscie for a trophy donated by Kaiser Wilhelm II . In later years another regatta was offered to Gdansk for the numerous participants from the Baltic States .
