The Pont Gustave Flaubert is a lift bridge over the Seine in Rouen , Seine-Maritime department , Normandy , France . The bridge, named after the writer Gustave Flaubert , opened on September 25, 2008 .

Location of the bridge

In the immediate vicinity of the bridge there is an old port area on the right bank, which also houses the Maritime Museum of Rouen , and on the left bank an industrial wasteland that is being converted into a residential area.

Data

The bridge is a lift bridge with a passage width of 100 meters and a height of 86 meters, making it the third tallest structure in Rouen. In the rest position the headroom is ten meters, and 55 meters when open. This makes it the highest lift bridge in the world. The total length of the bridge is 670 meters.

construction

The lanes are to the left and right of the two twin pillars in which the lifting mechanism is installed. The two moving parts of the track, which are 120 meters long, weigh 1200 tons each and can be lifted to 55 meters within twelve minutes. The bridge is opened around 30 times a year to allow the ships at the Armada Rouen and the cruise ships that dock in the city center to pass through. The total construction costs including the driveways amounted to 137 million euros. Construction began in June 2004.

On April 14, 2007, after initial trials of the lift, the bridge was opened for the three-masted barque Belem , which had been waiting for the exit in the port of Rouen for over a month.
