The Metro Station Pont Neuf is an underground station of Line 7 of the Paris Métro .

location

The station is located in the Saint-Germain-l'Auxerrois district in the 1st arrondissement of Paris . It lies lengthways under the Quai du Louvre at the level of the Seine bridge Pont Neuf .

Surname

The station's name is derived from the nearby bridge of the same name, which connects the two river banks across the Île de la Cité . The Pont Neuf, begun in 1518 and completed at the beginning of the 17th century, was the first bridge in the city on which no houses were built.

The station bears the suffix "La Monnaie". It refers to the proximity to the state mint Monnaie de Paris .

History and description

The construction of the section from Palais Royal (since 1989: Palais Royal - Musée du Louvre ) to Pont Marie was decided in March 1910. On April 16, 1926 it was put into operation with the Pont Neuf intermediate station.

The 75 m long station has side platforms under an elliptical , white tiled vault on two parallel tracks. The side walls follow the curvature of the ellipse. Exhibits and pictures on the platforms and former advertising spaces refer to the nearby mint.

Three exits lead to street level at the southeast end of the station on both sides of the Quai du Louvre and at Pont Neuf. Two of them are marked by candelabra designed by Adolphe Dervaux in the style of Art Deco .

vehicles

In 1971 the Sprague-Thomson trains that had been in service there for decades were replaced by those of the MF 67 series. The first vehicles of the MF 77 series hit the track in 1979 and soon replaced the predecessor completely.

Surroundings

The former La Samaritaine department store and the Conciergerie are in the immediate vicinity of the station. At the riverside road sides of the street of houses Quai du Louvre - Quai de la Mégisserie have Bouquinistes their bookstalls.
