The Pontigulasia are a type of unicellular , shelled amoebae and belongs to the group of Difflugina . The genus contains five species.

features

The case of the representatives of the Pontigulasia is pear-shaped with a clear constriction. It consists of a network-like structured organic putty with a perforated surface, in which mineral particles and individual frustules of diatoms are integrated. The cross section of the housing is circular or slightly flattened. The round mouth opening is at the end, inside the housing is divided in two by a partition in the manner of a "bridge" between the two wider sides at the level of the constriction, but there are openings to the right and left of the bridge.

Occurrence

Pontigulasia can be found on freshwater plants, in peat moss and sediments.
