The Pepsi Max 400 is a race in the NASCAR Sprint Cup . The race is still very young, was held for the first time in 2004 and has always taken place at the Auto Club Speedway in Fontana , California ever since . It traditionally takes place on Labor Day weekend, which was previously the race date of the Southern 500 . In the 2010 season it will be held for the last time for the time being. While the race went over 500 miles until 2009, the race distance of the last edition was reduced to 400 miles. Starting in 2011, the Kentucky Speedway will host a Sprint Cup race for the first time instead .
