Poppy Ackroyd (* in London ) is a British pianist , violinist and composer.

Live and act

Poppy Ackroyd's father, Norman Ackroyd, was an artist; in her childhood she heard Bob Dylan , The Rolling Stones , Frédéric Chopin , Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart and Franz Schubert, among others . She studied piano at the University of Edinburgh . After graduating, she became a member of the Hidden Orchestra . On her debut album Escapement she played the piano and violin against the backdrop of field recordings . Their music is mostly classified between Minimal Music , Modern Classical and Electronics . She processes her instruments with unusual means, e.g. plectra , drum sticks . On her second album Feathers , she also played the clavichord , harpsichord , spinet and harmonium .

Like the Hidden Orchestra , she is accompanied during her live performances by light installations by the artist Tom Newell alias Lumen. In 2013 their joint DVD Escapement Visualized was released .

She also writes music for dance performances, theater, film, and radio.
