Poppy Tumengkol

Poppy Tumengkol (* around 1945 ) is a former Indonesian badminton player . She was runner-up with the Indonesian women's team in 1969 and 1972.

Career

In the 1969 Uber Cup final , the up-and-coming Indonesian team faced Japan, but lost 6-1. Poppy Tumengkol lost in this final in the singles against Noriko Takagi with 0:11 and 0:11.

In 1972 the Indonesian women fared no better. This time, too, there was a heavy 6-1 defeat. Tumengkol lost her first double with Retno Koestijah against Etsuko Takenaka and Machiko Aizawa with 8:15 and 9:15. They lost the second game against Noriko Nakayama and Hiroe Yuki with 9:15 and 11:15.

Poppy Tumengkol is the wife of the badminton player Justian Suhandinata and the daughter-in-law of the badminton official Suharso Suhandinata, after whom the Asian Junior Team Championships have been named since 2009. The family runs the Tangkas Badminton Club, one of the leading Indonesian clubs. From the club come players like Icuk Sugiarto , Hermawan Susanto , Ricky Subagja , Rexy Mainaky , Joko Suprianto , Lius Pongoh and Verawaty Fajrin .
