Retno Koestijah

Retno Koestijah (born June 19, 1942 , also known as Mbak Kus ) is a former Indonesian badminton player . She was runner-up with the Indonesian women's team in 1969 and 1972.

Career

In the 1969 Uber Cup final , the up-and-coming Indonesian team faced Japan, but lost 6-1. Minarni and Koestijah lost in both doubles to Noriko Takagi and Hiroe Yuki as well as Hiroe Amano and Tomoko Takahashi in this final . In 1972 the Indonesian women fared no better. This time, too, there was a heavy 6-1 defeat. Retno Koestijah lost her first double with Poppy Tumengkol against Etsuko Takenaka and Machiko Aizawa with 8:15 and 9:15. They lost the second game against Noriko Nakayama and Hiroe Yuki with 9:15 and 11:15.

In the individual disciplines Koestijah won the double ranking at the Asian Games in 1962 with Minarni . In 1966 they both defended this title while in 1970 it was only enough for silver. In 1968 Koestijah and Minarni won the All England . In 1971 she became double Asian champion when she won both the mixed with Christian Hadinata and the double with Intan Nurtjahja .
