Portal of the Château du Marais in Argenteuil

The portal of the Château du Marais in Argenteuil , a French town in the department of Val-d'Oise in the region of Ile-de-France , is the only remnant of the old castle, called Château du Marais . The portal on Rue Auguste-Delaune was added to the list of architectural monuments in France in 1931 as Monument historique .

The owner of the building with an extensive park that stretched as far as the Seine was the Benedictine monastery in Argenteuil, which leased the property to rich aristocrats on a long-term basis. During the revolution , the property was sold as a Bien national . In the course of the 19th century the castle and its outbuildings were demolished and the property was parceled out. The buyers built single-family houses on it.
