Porte des Jacobins (Bourg-en-Bresse)
The Porte des Jacobins (English Gate of the Jacobins) is located in Bourg-en-Bresse , the capital of the Ain department in the French region of Auvergne-Rhône-Alpes . The 15th century gate has been a protected monument ( Monument historique ) since 1927 .
history
The Porte des Jacobins was built in 1437 as part of the Dominican monastery . In France, the Dominicans are also called Jacobins (German: Jacobins). Only the Porte des Jacobins remains of the monastery, which was closed during the French Revolution .

The porte on Rue de la République is made of carefully worked stone . The arched archivolt portal has consoles on both sides on which there were originally figures of saints.
