Portia Woodman (born July 12, 1991 in Kawakawa , New Zealand ) is a New Zealand rugby player who is a member of both the New Zealand national rugby union team and the national rugby team of 7 . She was honored with the World Rugby Women's Sevens Player of the Year award in 2015.
Career
Woodman played netball with the Northern Mystics until 2012 . She then switched to rugby. In 2013 she played her first international match for the Black Ferns . That same year, Woodman won with the Black Ferns Sevens the 7-Rugby World Cup . In the next two years she focused on rugby 7. With the Black Ferns Sevens she won the silver medal at the 2016 Olympic Games . Since 2016 she has been back on the Black Ferns squad. Woodman also runs for the provincial team Counties-Manukau, with whom she won the New Zealand championship in 2016.
Woodman won the 2017 Women's Rugby Union World Cup with the Black Ferns . In the second round game against Hong Kong, she put eight attempts . At the 2018 Commonwealth Games and in the 7-Rugby World Cup in 2018 , she won the gold medal in each 7-rugby. In November 2018, Woodman tore an Achilles tendon while training . After Woodman played sub-class netball after her injury, she made her comeback with New Zealand club Kaikohe in July 2020.
