The Portuguese Chamber Orchestra ( Portuguese Orquestra de Câmara Portuguesa , OCP ) is a chamber orchestra founded in 2007 and based in Oeiras , Portugal .

History, profile

The Portuguese Chamber Orchestra was founded on July 5, 2007. Its artistic director is Pedro Carneiro, he would like to promote young Portuguese musicians. The first public concert took place on September 13, 2007 at the Centro Cultural de Belém in Lisbon . It opened the 2007/2008 concert season of the cultural center, as well as later in 2010/2011. Initially it was a partner orchestra and since 2008 the residence orchestra of the cultural center.

The orchestra regularly takes part in the annual “Días de la Música de Belém” festival at the Centro Cultural de Belém. It worked with conductors such as Pedro Amaral, Luís Carvalho, Alberto Roque and José Luis Gómez, composers such as Emmanuel Nunes and Sofia Gubaidulina and soloists such as Pedro Neves, Jorge Moyano, Cristina Ortiz, Sergio Tiempo , Gary Hoffman, Filipe-Pinto Ribeiro, Carlos Alves , Heinrich Schiff and António Rosado.

The chamber orchestra opened the first Festival de las Artes de Coimbra and performed in cities such as Almada , Castelo Branco and Vila Viçosa and at the festivals of Alcobaça , Leiria and Paços de Brandão as well as in Lisbon in the New Years Concerts and the Festival Al Largo des Teatro Nacional de São Carlos .

The orchestra made its international debut in 2010 at the City of London Festival .

Social projects, sponsors

The Portuguese Chamber Orchestra directs various social projects: O meu amigo toca na OCP , OCPsolidária , OCPzero and OCPdois .

OCPzero is an orchestra made up of music students from across the country and is a first step towards forming a Portuguese youth orchestra. Since May 2013 it has been a member of the European Federation of National Youth Orchestras . Linklaters Portugal was the first private sponsor, he promoted the start of the OCPzero in 2010.

Since the end of 2012, the sponsors Calouste Gulbenkian Foundation , the project OCPsolidaria in Cercioeiras , a project for education and rehabilitation.

In 2013, the city of Oeiras agreed with the Portuguese Chamber Orchestra to provide an old primary school in Algés as the headquarters and building for the orchestra.
