List of grape varieties

Pošip (correctly Pošip bijeli) is an autochthonous white wine variety that is mainly grown in the Croatian region of Dalmatia on the island of Korčula around the towns of Čara and Smokvica , the island of Hvar and, to a lesser extent, on the Pelješac peninsula . The dominance of the grape variety on Korčula is due to the promotion during the communist era , as it is more productive and easier to cultivate than the Grk , which is also native to Korčula .

Descent, origin

Pošip is a natural cross between the two grape varieties Zlatarica blatska bijeli and Bratkovina bijeli. All three varieties are mainly found on the island of Korčula . Despite a few synonyms, Pošip is not related to the ' Furmint ' grape variety .

Wine

The Pošip is usually used to produce a wine that is light, dry and fresh by Croatian standards. The alcohol content is 12–13 percent by volume , the best drinking temperature is 14 ° C. Rare Pošip is with wines from the grape variety Bratkovina bijeli blended . Partially rosinated berries of the variety are also used in the Dalmatian dessert wine Prošek .
