distribution and habitat

The large distribution area of the species extends from south-east Europe to Central Asia with numerous, in part widely isolated ( disjoint ) occurrences. The area extends from the north-eastern Greek mainland and the islands of the northern Aegean over the catchment area of the middle and lower Danube , the other tributaries on the south and southeast coast of the Black Sea and the Caucasus to the tributaries of the southern Caspian Sea in Iran and in Turkmenistan . In addition, the species is naturalized as a neozoon in southern France . The deposit is located in the Herault River near St. Guilhem le Desert about 350 km west of Nice.

Potamon ibericum inhabits streams and rivers. Cyprus is settled at altitudes where the water temperature does not fall below 5 ° C. The species bridges a temporary drying out of its living water in the river bed in deep tubes and under stones. The species can survive without water for a long time in high humidity.
