Presidential election in Ethiopia 2001

An indirect presidential election was held in Ethiopia on October 8, 2001 .

The election of the Federal President was purely a matter of form: During this presidential election without the participation of the people, the Ethiopian Parliament re-elected Girma Wolde-Giorgis for a second term of 6 years.

It was confirmed first by election by the House of Lords, the Federation Council , and then by the House of Commons, the Council of Representatives .
