Presidential election in Ethiopia 2007

The 2007 presidential election in Ethiopia was only the second in the history of Ethiopia in which the head of state was democratically elected.

The presidential election in Ethiopia took place on October 9, 2007, when the Ethiopian parliament re-elected the previous incumbent Girma Wolde-Giorgis from the Oromo Democratic Organization (coalition partner in the ruling EPRDF coalition ) for a second term of 6 years.

He was previously elected by the First Chamber, the Bundeshaus (or Federation Council ), then only by the Lower House, the People's House of Representatives with 430 votes in favor, 88 against and 11 abstentions.
