The presidential election in Ukraine in 1991 was the first presidential election of Ukraine as well as the first free election in this since 1918. They took place on 1 December 1991st

In the first ballot, the independent candidate Leonid Kravchuk emerged victorious with an approval of 61.59 percent of the votes cast and subsequently became the first President of Ukraine .

On the same day, the referendum on the independence of Ukraine was held, which was supported by all six candidates for the presidency and was approved by 92.3 percent.
