Prut (Ukrainian and Russian Прут ) is a village in Novoselytsia Raion in Chernivtsi Oblast , in western Ukraine (historical region of Bukovina ) with about 400 inhabitants.

Administratively, the place belongs together with the villages of Buda (Буда) and Ostryzja (Остриця) to the district council of Mahala .

The village did not emerge until after 1945 and was spun off from the village of Mahala after Ukraine gained independence in 1991. The name is derived from the Ukrainian spelling of the river Pruth flowing south of the town .
