Demographics

As of the 2000 census , Prairie Ridge had 11,688 residents, 3,902 households, and 3,109 families. The population density was 1059.3 per km ². There were 4,038 housing units at an average density of 366 per km².

The population was 93.38% White , 0.54% African American , 1.17% Indian , 0.91% Asian , 0.38% Pacific Islander , 0.79% from other "races" and 2.84% from two or more "races" . Hispanics or Latinos of "any race" made up 3.36% of the population.

Of the 3,902 households, 47.3% had children under the age of 18, 64.4% were run by married couples living together , 9.3% by single mothers; 20.3% were non-families. 13.7% of households were singles and 3.4% were single people over 65 years of age. The average household size was 3 and the average family size was 3.29.

The median age in the city was 32 years. 33.2% of the population were under 18, 6.3% between 18 and 24, 36.9% between 25 and 44, 17.8% between 45 and 64 and 5.8 65 years or older. There were 103 men for every 100 women, and 101.8 men for every 100 women over the age of 18.
