South Prairie is a small town ( Town ) in Pierce County in the State of Washington . As of the 2010 United States Census , South Prairie had 434 residents.

history

South Prairie was parceled out by Frank Bisson in 1888. It was named for its location south of Connell's Prairie and Porter's Prairie. South Prairie was officially recognized as a local authority on February 17, 1909.

2010 Census

As of the 2010 census , there were 434 residents, 166 households, and 115 families in South Prairie. The population density was 429.7 per km ². There were 174 housing units at an average density of 172.3 per km².

The population consisted of 92.4% whites , 0.5% Afro-Americans , 2.5% Indians , 0.7% Asians , 0.5% from other "races" and 3.5 % % from two or more "races" . Hispanics or Latinos of "any race" made up 1.2% of the population.

Of the 166 households, 36.1% had children under the age of 18, 56.6% were run by married couples living together , 7.8% by single mothers and 4.8% by single fathers; 30.7% were non-families. 24.7% of households were singles and 8.4% were single people over 65 years of age. The average household size was 2.61 and the average family size was 3.15.

The median age in the city was 40.6 years. 25.8% of the population were under 18, 6.7% between 18 and 24, 22.5% between 25 and 44, 33.8% between 45 and 64 and 11.1 65 years or older. Of the population, 51.8% were men and 48.2% women.

Census 2000

As of the 2000 census , there were 382 residents, 125 households, and 98 families in South Prairie. The population density was 359.7 per km ². There were 138 housing units at an average density of 130 per km².

The population was 93.98% white , 1.05% African American , 2.09% Native American , 1.31% Asian , and 1.57% two or more "races" . Hispanics or Latinos of "any race" made up 0.79% of the population.

Of the 125 households, 44.8% had children under the age of 18, 68% were run by married couples living together, and 4.8% by single mothers; 20.8% were non-families. 12% of the households were singles and 3.2% were single people over 65 years of age. The average household size was 3.06 and the average family size 3.4 people.

The median age in the city was 32 years. 33% of the population were under 18, 4.7% between 18 and 24, 35.8% between 25 and 44, 16.8% between 45 and 64 and 7.1 65 years or older. There were 108.7 men for every 100 women, and 100 men for 100 women for over 18-year-olds.

All information on median income relates to the median. The median household income was US $ 50,250 and that of families was US $ 56,250. Men had a median income of US $ 47,489 compared to US $ 37,250 for women. The per capita income was US $ 19,345.
