Pranciškus Vaičekonis

Pranciškus Vaičekonis also Pranas Vaičekonis (born January 1, 1928 in the village of Tetervinai , Skrebotiškis parish , Pasvalys rayon ; † October 14, 2006 in Vilnius ) was a Lithuanian canon lawyer , professor and priest.

Life

Pranas Vaičekonis was born into a poor farming family. He attended the primary schools Šunkiškiai and Pasvalys, then the Pasvalys grammar school and the 1st grammar school Kaunas . From 1948 he studied at the Kaunas Interdiocesan Seminary and was consecrated on September 21, 1952 with other 15 deacons by Bishop Kazimieras Paltarokas . Afterwards Pranas Vaičekonis became administrator of the parish of Varėna, worked as vicar in the parish of the Sacred Heart of Jesus Vilnius (1956-1959) and in the parish of St. Apostles Peter and Paul Vilnius (1959-11962), in the parish of the Sacred Heart of Jesus Vilnius (Dievo Apvaizdos bažnyčia, 1962-1967).

1967–1972 he attended the Pontifical University of Saint Thomas Aquinas in Rome, studied theology and obtained a doctorate in canon law . He then worked as a pastor in the parish of St. Archangel Rapolas Vilnius, in the ecclesiastical tribunal of the Archdiocese of Vilnius (as speaker, notary, judge) and taught at the Kaunas seminary (professor since January 14, 1982).

Since June 11, 1982, Pranas Vaičekonis worked as pastor of the parish of St. Apostles Peter and Paul Vilnius. Since 1995 he has been a professor at the theology faculty of the Vytautas Magnus University in Kaunas and at that time was the only priest as a member of the Lithuanian Academy of Sciences . For a short time he taught the elective subject " Canon Law " at the Law Faculty of the University of Vilnius (on the initiative and invitation of the criminal lawyer Vladas Pavilonis ).

In 2000 he was released from the parish office after a myocardial infarction and appointed resident of the parish of St. Archangel Rapolas Vilnius.
