The ensign (original designation Czech Praporčík, English transcription Praporshchik ) is the lowest rank (OR-7) in the career or rank group of the ensigns in the Czech Army (AČR) . In a number of western armed forces, on the other hand, the ensign or ensign in the sea is a military rank which - differently from country to country - is either an officer candidate , for example in Germany, or the designation for the youngest officer rank .
Concept formation and classification
The Slavic noun Praporčík stands for prа́por or banner in Church Slavonic and denotes the lowest rank of the rank group of Praporschtschiks , or ensigns , in the land and air forces of the Czech Army, but also in a number of other countries .
In the present, too, the Praporschtschik , for example in Russia, the Ukraine and also in the Czech Republic, is fundamentally different from the ensign of the Bundeswehr , which here is a generally temporary rank designation for officer candidates from the army , air force or medical service .

history
As in the two other successor states of the defunct Danube Monarchy, Poland and Hungary, Czechoslovakia took over the rank of ensign , or Praporschtschik, from the defunct Austro- Hungarian army . However, the Praporschtschik no longer referred to an officer candidate , but to the highest-ranking sergeant with portepee .
Initially abolished after the Second World War, the Praporschtschik was reintroduced in 1959. Now he formed an independent career group that ranked between the NCOs with Portepee and the officers .
The successor states of Czechoslovakia, the Czech Republic and the Slovak Republic , retained the category and ranks unchanged after joining NATO.
Current development
