Praying with Anger is a 1992 American drama film and the debut of M. Night Shyamalan , who wrote, directed, and starred. The film premiered at the Toronto International Film Festival , but has only been shown in a few American cinemas and film festivals.

Dev Raman, a young American with Indian roots, decides to return to his native country for a college exchange year. In the beginning he had difficulties to get used to the Indian culture with its numerous religions. But with the help of his mother and the advice of his friend Sanjay, he gradually manages.
Origin and reception
The script was written by Shyamalan during the final year of his film studies at the Tisch School of the Arts of New York University . Shyamalan's $ 750,000 budget came from a grant from the American Film Institute and support from his parents. Was shot Praying with Anger in India.
The film premiered on September 12, 1992 at the Toronto International Film Festival . In his review, James Berardinelli calls the film unoriginal and boring, but can imagine that Shyamalan could well have a future in the film industry. The film was shown in a few American cinemas for only a week.
