Prestfoss is a village in the Norwegian municipality of Sigdal , located in the province ( Fylke ) Viken . The place represents the administrative center of Sigdal and has 501 inhabitants (as of 2019).
geography
Prestfoss is a so-called Tettsted , a settlement that is counted as one area for statistical purposes. The village is located in the center of the commune of Sigdal on the southeastern bank of Lake Soneren , where the Simoa River flows away .
The place belongs to the area of the former province of Buskerud , which was transferred to the newly created Fylke Viken on January 1, 2020 as part of the regional reform in Norway .
Culture
The Sigdal Museum, founded in 1940, is located in Prestfoss . There is also the Holmen kirke , a wooden church from 1853.
Surname
The name of the place is composed of the parts "Perst" (German: pastor ) and "-foss" ( waterfall ) and Prestfoss is also the name of several waterfalls in Norway.
