Primary maturity

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

The Prima maturity was a student of a secondary school , which was common, especially from the 19th century to the first third of the 20th century. The primary school entrance qualification was de facto replaced by the technical college entrance qualification with the introduction of the technical college .

The primary school maturity could be achieved after attending a humanistic grammar school , a secondary school , an upper secondary school (since 1882) and a cadet school , but also after private tuition through a state examination. The primary school maturity meant the transfer from the upper secondary to the lower primary, i.e. the penultimate grade.

The primary school leaving certificate, which was achieved on average at the age of 17, was not sufficient to be admitted to university . Otherwise it had an authorization value comparable to the Abitur . With the exception of Bavaria (since 1872), primary school in the German armies was sufficient for an officer career . It also made it possible to study chemistry , economics , dentistry , veterinary medicine and some technical subjects.
