Pristina is a genus of annelid worms in the Naididae family. The genus comprises 21 species and is distributed worldwide.

anatomy

Pristina are few bristles with about 15 to 120 segments and a body length of 2 to 20 mm. The bristles (chaetae) on the belly and back can occur individually or in bundles, depending on the type, designed as hair bristles or with divided tips as hooks or straight shape. The abdominal bristles usually begin on the second segment, the stomach between the sixth and eighth segments.

Way of life

Species of Pristina live aquatically or as part of the bottom fauna , the aquatic species not only occur in boggy stagnant waters, but also in flowing waters with little organic material. The worms are herbivorous and detritivorous . Like the other genera of the Naidinae , the Pristina can reproduce sexually and asexually .

Systematics

The genus Pristina is more closely related to the genera Ainudrilus , Epirodrilus , Monopylephorus and Rhyacodrilus from the subfamily Rhyacodrilinae than with the other members of the subfamily Naidinae . Therefore, this subfamily is not to be viewed as monophyletic , as Pristina either would be separated from the Naidinae and placed in the Rhyacodrilinae or, conversely, the related genera would have to come into the subfamily Naidinae.

Pristina consists of 21 species:
