The Pritzker Military Museum & Library (formerly: Pritzker Military Library ) is a museum and research library in Chicago , Illinois . The institution was founded in 2003 by Colonel Jennifer N. Pritzker as a publicly accessible specialized library for military history in Streeterville , located in the Near North Side of Chicago. She later moved to the downtown Chicago Loop .

The library's holdings include over 70,000 media, including 45,000 books as well as journals , videos, paintings, posters, etc. A total of 9,000 photos and negatives, but also letters and magazines from American soldiers from the American Civil War (1861–1865) and the Spanish American War (1898) are preserved. There is also an extensive collection on the British statesman Winston Churchill . Of particular note are the American Revolutionary War and World War II diaries , an original Medal of Honor and several historical World War II posters.

The Holt Oral History Program features the stories of 71 veterans , including audio files with interviews .

Borrow

The library offers membership and is integrated into the interlibrary loan network of the USA. She is a member of the Consortium of Academic and Research Libraries in Illinois (CARLI) and of the Libraries Very Interested in Sharing (LVIS). Approx. 3,000 antiquarian copies (books and journals) are not loaned out and can only be viewed in the reading room .

Personalities such as Paul Bucha , Doris Kearns Goodwin , Gary L. Littrell , Anthony C. Zinni , James Arthur Lovell , WEB Griffin , Rick Atkinson and Sandra Grimes were guests at the facility as interviewees or for book readings.

Various contemporary artists a. a. James Dietz , Steve Mumford and Don Stivers exhibited their works.

Awards

In 2007 and 2008 she received the Webby Awards from the International Academy of the Digital Arts and Sciences . In 2009, the facility received the National Medal for Museum and Library Service of the Institute of Museum and Library Services .
