Privolnoje ( Russian Привольное, German Warenburg or Alt-Warenburg (until 1942)) is a village in the Russian Oblast Saratov on the banks of the Volga .
history
Warenburg was founded in 1767 as a colony by German emigrants . Russians later also moved to the village. Before 1918 the village belonged to the Samara Governorate . With the establishment of the Soviet Union , Warenburg was incorporated into the Autonomous Socialist Soviet Republic of the Volga Germans .
When the Germans from Russia were deported in 1941, all Germans were forcibly resettled. A majority of Russians moved into the village and still represent the majority of the population today.
