Priya Cooper (born October 2, 1974 in South Perth , Western Australia ) is an Australian Paralympic swimmer who won a total of nine gold medals at Paralympic Games and several world championships and world records. Cooper was born with cerebral palsy .
Successes at the Paralympics
Priya Cooper first competed in the 1992 Summer Paralympics in Barcelona , where she won three gold and two silver medals, as well as two world records and three Paralympic records. At the 1996 Summer Paralympics in Atlanta , she won five gold medals as well as one silver and one bronze medal.
Her last participation was at the 2000 Summer Paralympics in Sydney . where she won the gold medal in the 400-meter freestyle and three bronze medals in the 100-meter freestyle, 4 × 100-meter freestyle and 4 × 100-meter medley.
In 1992 Priya Cooper was awarded the Order of Australia , and in 2006 she was inducted into the Western Australian Hall of Champions .
