prostep ivip is an association based in Darmstadt . It sees itself as a globally active, independent network from industry, IT and research. The focus of his work is on the digital transformation in product creation and production . It formulates and bundles the requirements of manufacturers and suppliers in the manufacturing industry, defines standards and interfaces, offers IT providers forums for more interoperability and carries out neutral benchmarks . The association was founded in 1993 as the ProSTEP Association for the Promotion of International Product Data Standards. V. founded, renamed ProSTEP iViP eV in 2002 and has been writing "prostep ivip" since May 2017.

history

The establishment of the association was made in 1993 from the insight of renowned IT managers from BMW , Bosch , Continental , Daimler , Delphi , Opel , Siemens , Volkswagen and 30 other that the competitiveness of their businesses largely on the development of advanced methods for efficient PLM be determined becomes. The starting point was the ProSTEP project funded by the BMWi and the resulting decision to jointly develop the STEP data format (ISO 10303) . In 2002, the topics of the association were expanded to include those of the successfully completed BMBF lead project iViP (iViP stands for "integrated virtual product creation"). To this day, it has been a major concern of the prostep ivip association for its members to develop new approaches to continuous process, system and data integration and to digitally support all product development phases.

organization

40% of the 180 member companies in prostep ivip today are companies in the manufacturing industry, 40% are IT companies and 20% are research institutions and other bodies. The tripartism is also reflected in the composition of the board of directors: one representative of the manufacturers, one of the suppliers, one for IT and one for research. The technical program of the association with its more than 20 projects is steered by the Technical Steering Committee (TSC).

Cooperations

prostep ivip maintains a network with like-minded organizations and is constantly expanding it. These organizations include ISO , OMG , DIN , AIA , ASD-STAN or OASIS , as well as associations such as AutomationML , GALIA , GfSE , GPM , JAMA , PDES , VDA or the VDMA .

Every spring, the association organizes one of the world's largest neutral PLM congresses, the prostep ivip symposium. In addition, it also invites you to smaller, topic-specific conferences and webinars.
