Kevin Charles "Pro" Hart (born May 30, 1928 in Broken Hill , New South Wales , † March 28, 2006 ibid) was an Australian painter .

Life

Hart was the father of Australian outback painting. His works tried to capture the spirit of the outback. His nickname Professor , which was later shortened to Pro , came from his youth when he was known as an inventor.

Hart, who started painting at the age of seven, worked in the Broken Hill mine as a young man. He began professional painting in 1958. His first exhibition was in 1962 at the Bonython Gallery in Adelaide .

Although his works of art were exhibited worldwide and bought by collectors, Hart always remained connected to his homeland and continued to live in Broken Hill, where he exhibited works by other well-known Australian artists in his own gallery. He received the Broken Hill Art Prize five times . In the 1970s and 1980s he exhibited works for the first time in England , where Prince Philip bought three paintings, as well as in the United States , where one found its way into the White House , as well as Israel and Egypt .

His pictures show Australian landscapes as well as rural scenes and religious motifs. His illustrations for a collection of Henry Lawson's poems show these motifs with a humorous undertone.

Many of his works have a political background and show his attachment to right-wing conspiratorial circles and controversial organizations such as Pauline Hanson's One Nation Party . On the other hand, Hart was also known for his charitable work and his generosity.

Hart found relaxation with the Bible and organ music ; he was a devout Christian. In the later years he installed organ pipes in his Pro Hart Gallery , which made Broken Hill famous as a tourist attraction.

In 1976 he received the Order of the British Empire and in 1983 the Australian Citizen of the Year award .

Hart developed ALS in his later years . Weakened by his illness, he was unable to pursue painting in the six months before his death. He died on March 28, 2006 at the age of 77.
