Production mechanic EFZ

Production mechanic EFZ has been a basic vocational training course and an official job title in Switzerland since 2008 . The direct predecessor occupation was the mechanical engineer.

Swissmechanic is responsible for this apprenticeship . Since 2008, the designation of the qualification has been “Production mechanic with federal certificate of proficiency (EFZ)”.

Work area

Production mechanics are proficient in metalworking techniques such as drilling, turning, milling and use them to manufacture high-tech workpieces. If parts are mass-produced on computer-controlled machines, they monitor the production process, intervene if necessary and check the manufactured parts with modern measuring instruments.

Requirements for learning the profession

Young people who are interested in the world of mechanics are combined with manual skills, knowledge of mathematics and a good perception are suitable for an apprenticeship as a production mechanic. Good performance in mathematics and physics is required. Of course, this apprenticeship is also suitable for women.

The training period is 3 years.

In-company training

Basic training

1st and 2nd year of apprenticeship: acquire basic skills and knowledge in manual production technology. Process metal and non-metal semi-products with the most important manufacturing and joining processes such as drilling, welding, soldering, screwing and gluing. Check workpieces with various test and measuring tools and document the test results. Manufacture workpieces with conventional lathes or milling machines.

Focus training

1st to 3rd year of apprenticeship: In parallel to the basic training, basic skills and knowledge in the operational area of ​​the company are deepened and consolidated. The choice of areas of application (practical skills) depends on the possibilities of the teaching company and the inclinations and skills of the learner. The production mechanics build up at least one competence.

Vocational school

The apprentices attend vocational school one day a week . Be taught:

Inter-company courses
