Polymechanic

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Polymechanic has been the official job title in Switzerland since 1997, which was introduced as the amalgamation of several technical professions such as mechanic , precision mechanic , toolmaker , machine mechanic and industrial mechanic .

Swissmechanic and Swissmem are equally responsible for the apprenticeship .

Since 2009, the designation of the degree has been "Polymechanic with Federal Certificate of Proficiency (EFZ)".

Work area

Production of a workpiece on a CNC - milling machine .

It should be noted that in the polymechanic profession, different subjects are offered to choose from. Frequently chosen subjects are manufacturing, assembly and maintenance.

In cooperation with other specialists, polymechanics carry out orders or projects, develop design solutions and create technical documents or build prototypes and carry out tests. You will be involved in commissioning, planning and monitoring production processes or performing maintenance work.

production

Polymechanics specializing in manufacturing manufacture workpieces that are built into fixtures, devices, apparatus, machines and systems. The workpieces are machined by hand and with machine tools such as lathes, drilling, milling and grinding machines. They have to be manufactured to a hundredth or thousandth of a millimeter, depending on the intended use. Computer-controlled machines ( CNC ) and computer-based programming systems ( CAM ) are often used. Programming, setting up and operating computer-controlled machines is the focus of the training.

Assembly

Polymechanics specializing in assembly assemble devices, apparatus, machines or systems.

maintenance

Polymechanics specializing in maintenance carry out maintenance work on industrial plants.

Requirements for learning the profession

Young people who are interested in mechanics are combined with manual skills, good mathematics skills and quick comprehension are suitable for an apprenticeship as a polymechanic. Good performance in mathematics and physics is required.

Of course, this apprenticeship is also suitable for women, more and more women are practicing this profession. For example, in 2014 two women qualified for the Swiss Championships for polymechanics EFZ at SwissSkills .

The course lasts 4 years.

In-company training

Three-stage modular basic training in the first half of the apprenticeship. The compulsory basic level includes manual and mechanical production technology. Areas such as joining technology, commissioning, maintenance and specialist occupational safety are also dealt with.

Specialized training in operational areas of activity in the second half of the apprenticeship, such as project planning and project processing, construction, prototype construction, production support, manufacturing equipment, parts production, décolletage, production processes, assembly, automation, maintenance

During the entire training, intensive individual promotion of interdisciplinary skills such as company connection, learning, work methodology, work safety , environmental protection, independence, quality orientation, efficiency, teamwork, creativity, flexibility, dealing with change

professional school

The lessons take place in two levels:

  • Level G (basic requirements): 1800 lessons: 2 days per week in the first year of training, 1 day per week from the second year of training
  • Level E (extended requirements): 2160 lessons: 2 days per week in the 1st and 2nd year of training, 1 day + ½ day of optional subject per week in the 3rd and 4th year of training

Depending on the performance of the learner, a level change to E is possible in the first year of training. A rise from level G to E is only possible if the level G student has an average of 5.0 .

Subjects:

  • General education, language and communication
  • General education, society
  • Mathematics, computer science, learning and working methodology
  • physics
  • Technical English
  • Material and manufacturing technology
  • Drawing technology and machine elements
  • Automation
  • Open area, since 2009 (EFZ) cross-departmental teaching
  • Electrical engineering and electronics

Gifted apprentices are recommended to attend vocational secondary school in addition to compulsory classes. The technical vocational baccalaureate entitles you to transfer to a university of applied sciences without an examination.

Inter-company courses

Additional training locations are inter-company courses in the first half of the apprenticeship . The compulsory basic courses range from 48 to 64 days, with 8 hours per day.

Final apprenticeship examination (qualification procedure)

At the end of the second year of the apprenticeship, there is a practical partial examination that contributes 25% to the final grade. The basic work of an apprentice is checked before training in the chosen subject area. If the partial examination is unsatisfactory, it will be taken in the third year of the apprenticeship.

The partial examination is divided into the following 4 areas, for which the apprentice has 3 hours eachː

  • Manual manufacturing technology
  • Machine manufacturing technology; conventional or CNC turning
  • Machine manufacturing technology; conventional or CNC milling
  • Assembly technology

At the end of the apprenticeship in the 4th year of apprenticeship there is a practical work (IPA) to be done, which makes up 25% of the final grade. The final mark also includes an experience mark, 15%, professional knowledge, 15%, and the general education mark, 20%. Pupils who attend the vocational school-leaving certificate are exempted from general education, but the remaining grades count 25% more.
