Protector & Wik (spelling: PROTECTOR & WIK) is a German-language trade journal on all topics of security technology and economic protection. It appears in Germany, Austria and Switzerland. The publisher is Schlütersche Verlagsgesellschaft GmbH & Co. KG .
history
Protector & Wik was founded in 1973 by the publisher Walter M. Graf in Switzerland. The publisher Graf und Neuhaus was the publisher of the magazine, at that time still under the title Protector - the specialist magazine on protective measures against burglary, attack, theft and fire . The first Protector & Wik Special appeared in 1989 with the topic of "Access Control".
In 1992 the WEKA publishing group took over the Graf und Neuhaus publishing house.
IGT Informationsgesellschaft Technik mbH (IGT-Verlag) acquired Protector & Wik in 1996, now with the subtitle "The European trade journal for security". In 1997, the first internet presence for the trade magazine was created.
The Protector & Wik editorial team founded the tradition of holding forums on special topics in the security industry in 2003 with the Forum Access Control.
In 2006, IGT-Verlag also acquired the magazine W&S - Das Sicherheitsmagazin , which covers the subject of economic protection and security management and thus rounded off the publisher's range of topics in the field of security.
Three years later, Protector & Wik and W & S launched the joint internet presence entitled “Sicherheit.info”. Since June 2011 Sicherheit.info has been part of the “ Information Community for the Determination of the Spread of Advertising Media e. V. (IVW) ”.
In 2012, IGT / Protector & Wik and the “Bavarian Association for Security in Business e. V. (BVSW) "held the" Security Summit of German Business "for the first time, which has been held every year in March since then.
In the course of the anniversary edition "40 Years Protector" (06/2013), IGT incorporated the magazine W & S into Protector & Wik and thus established the magazine as a comprehensive trade magazine for the security industry. At the same time, the subtitle of the Protector was changed to the current version "Security Technology & Economic Protection". The Protector Award has also been advertised annually since 2013 and presented at the SicherheitsExpo in July in Munich.
At the beginning of 2016, IGT-Verlag took over Wik - Zeitschrift für die Sicherheit der Wirtschaft (spelling: WIK) from SecuMedia Verlags GmbH. The Wik is as an independent title with the core areas of business protection and from issue 3/2016 ASW integrated messages in the Protector. The subject area of "economic protection" will be expanded further. This also went hand in hand with an increase in the total volume and the change of the magazine title to "Protector & Wik".
2017 starts a new chapter for Protector & Wik. Since April 1, 2017, the magazine has been published by Schlüterschen Verlagsgesellschaft GmbH & Co. KG , headquartered in Hanover.
target group
Protector & Wik is aimed at people responsible for security in business, administration and politics. In particular, these are security officers in industry, trade and authorities as well as installers, planners and system houses. It is also an organ of the “ BHE Bundesverband Sicherheitstechnik e. V. ".
The magazine is distributed by subscription and can be ordered directly from the publisher.
Structure and content
Protector & Wik is published 10 times a year, of which twice in a double edition (January / February and July / August). The trade magazine consists of reports, interviews, specialist articles, user reports, opinion pieces, market overviews, product information and tests and current reports from the industry. Columns are next to the respective title topic z. B. "Companies & Markets", "Security Technology", "Economic Protection" and "Smart Home Security". In addition, there are regularly “Industry News”, “Products”, “Your Local Partners”, “Sources of Supply” and a section each focusing on Switzerland and Austria. The most important topics covered are video surveillance, access control, fire protection, outdoor security, burglary protection, mechanical security and risk management, security services, special protection vehicles, insurance, industrial espionage, corruption and the protection of critical infrastructures. In addition, the Protector provides special preliminary and follow-up reports on all trade fairs relevant to the industry, in particular the " security essen ", which takes place every two years , "Sicherheit" in Zurich and the annual trade fairs "IFSEC" ( London ) and " SicherheitExpo “( Munich ). Every year, three special editions ("Specials") appear on the main topics of access control, fire protection and video surveillance.
Security.info
The Protector & Wik online portal , "Sicherheit.info", is divided into seven topic channels: "Security Technology", "Services", "Economic Protection", "Smart Home Security", "Occupational Safety", "IT Security" and " Industry internal ". The range of topics is thus broader and more extensive than in the print edition. The contributions are media-specific and updated daily. The portal also contains information in the form of market overviews, industry barometers, product tests, supplier databases, job exchanges, white papers and event dates. In June 2016, the page recorded 31,670 online visits and 61,736 page impressions ( IVW 06/2016).
Newsletter
The free Sicherheit.info newsletter appears weekly on Monday. The currently around 3,300 subscribers are informed personally and up-to-date about selected topics in the security industry.
Events
Security summit of the German economy
The “Security Summit of German Business”, the so-called “Winter Conference”, is a cooperation event between IGT / Protector & Wik and the “Bavarian Association for Security in Business”. V. (BVSW) ". Every year in March, security officers from the economy meet for two days with people from science, politics and the police, as well as service providers and manufacturers of security technology at Spitzingsee . The aim is the exchange on the current challenges of the industry, which is accompanied by scientific lectures on current topics, innovations and developments in the security area.
Award
The Protector Award is presented every year as part of the SicherheitExpo in Munich. Protector & Wik awards current security solutions in four categories (video surveillance, access control, hazard detection technology and smart home security). Readers vote on the winners online beforehand on Sicherheit.info.
Forums
The Protector & Wik editorial team invites manufacturers of security products, planners and installers to an in-depth discussion at annual forums. The results are presented in detail in the access control and video surveillance specials, but are also included in the regular Protector & Wik editions.
