The Protestant parish church of Winnweiler is a landmark of the city and at the same time an important sacred building of the Baroque in the Palatinate.
history
After the destruction of Falkenstein Castle , the town of Winnweiler became the seat of the Falkenstein lordship in 1647 . This fell to Lorraine in 1665 and to Austria in 1740, after Franz Stephan von Lothringen had married the Austrian Empress Maria Theresa .
Design
The forms of construction in Austrian rule differ noticeably from those in other Palatinate territories. The Protestant church in Winnweiler was built in 1749 as a simple hall with a three-sided closed choir , which is otherwise not often found in Protestant churches . In 1754 the west tower, visible from afar, was added.
Furnishing
The strikingly elegant pulpit inside has rocailles decorations on the paneled parapet. The cheeks on the side of the organ's pedal towers are also adorned with lively rococo decor. The choir windows are also remarkable.
