The Protestant cemetery in Augsburg has around 9,500 grave sites with a size of around 6 hectares and is located in the Augsburg-Hochfeld district .

History and use

The cemetery was laid out in 1534 by the municipal authorities of the city of Augsburg and at that time was outside the city walls. It is still in use, making it the oldest cemetery in Augsburg where burials are carried out.

The administration building was built in 1700. From 1825 a church was added, which was laid out according to plans by Johann Michael Voit and August von Voit . The last one added in 1837 was a morgue.

A special feature of the cemetery is its collection of old grave books , which have been preserved until 1658. The 18th century grave memorial inscriptions are also recorded in this archive.

In addition, there has been an urn niche wall in the cemetery since 1999, designed by the architects Meier und Meyr.
