Schaezler (also Schaetzler) is a Protestant family from the Upper Palatinate , who lived in Augsburg and was raised to the nobility in 1821.

history

The reliable line of trunks begins with Jeremias Schaezler, documented in 1638; † 1676, Palatine-Sulzbach judge in Etzenried. In contrast, the Schaezler family traced its ancestry back to the barons Schaezl zu Hörmannsperg (Hörmannsberg), Watzmannsdorf and Thyrnau:

The identity of the Etzenrieder Schaetzler von Hörmannsberg and Watzmannsdorf in Passau, which Wolf Schaetzler is said to have immigrated from Passau to Sulzbach in the 16th century because of his creed, is based at least in this information on an error, since all Schaetzler in the Upper Palatinate appear a full century earlier in Sulzbach, and what cannot be overlooked is the fact that the coats of arms do not speak for the equality of the tribe, especially not the very complex helmet decorations of the Barons von Schätzler in Augsburg

The banker Johann Lorenz Schaezler was enrolled in the baron class of the Kingdom of Bavaria on November 25, 1821 . In the year he was raised to the nobility, he bought his father-in-law's palace , which today bears his name. He also acquired the Hofmarken Sulzemoos and Scherneck and Castle Thyrnau at Passau .

Johann Lorenz von Schaezler's three sons Ferdinand Benedikt Freiherr von Schaezler (1795–1856), Wilhelm (1797–1887) and Ludwig Karl von Schaezler (1800–1861) are the ancestors of the three lines of the noble family.

In Augsburg, a street and the Schaezlerpalais , which has been given to the city, are a reminder of the family that was important for the city.
