Ferdinand Benedikt Freiherr von Schaezler (born June 8, 1795 in Augsburg ; † August 1, 1856 in Munich ) was a German banker and entrepreneur from the von Schaezler family from Augsburg .

Live and act

His parents were the banker Johann Lorenz Freiherr von Schaezler and Maria Anna Freifrau von Schaezler, geb. Freiin Liebert von Liebenhofen. He completed a commercial apprenticeship in Geneva , Marseille and Trieste . He then worked in his father's bank and exchange house, where he became a partner in 1825. Just one year later he took over the management with his brother Ludwig Karl Freiherr von Schaezler, who was five years his junior . After Augsburg increasingly lost its leading role as a financial metropolis, the Schaezler relocated a branch to the up-and-coming banking center of Munich . In the royal seat of Bavaria, the Schaezler bank participated in the establishment of a stearin candle and soap factory, of which the baron became the sole owner in 1849.

Since the success of the bank branch in Munich was relatively modest, Schaezler returned to Augsburg. In his hometown he was instrumental in founding a railway association that advocated the construction of the Munich-Augsburg line. He also promoted the industrialization of the Augsburg textile trade. In this regard, he played a major role in the transformation of the Augsburg worsted yarn spinning mill, founded in 1836, into a stock corporation. Until 1852 the baron was chairman of the supervisory board of one of the largest worsted yarn spinning mills in Germany at the time. In 1852 Schaezler, who had lived in Munich again since 1848, withdrew from business life.

The baron was also involved in politics. In 1836, for example, he was elected to the board of the council of municipal representatives of the city of Augsburg and from 1837 to 1848 was a member of the second chamber of the Bavarian custodial representation. From 1834 to 1854 he was chairman of the Chamber of Commerce for Swabia and Neuburg. He also supported social institutions. In his hometown, Schaezler endowed an orphan and deaconess foundation with a substantial sum of money.
