The province of Cauquenes ( Spanish Provincia de Cauquenes ) is a province in the Chilean Región del Maule . The capital is Cauquenes , where around two thirds of the province's population live.
geography
The province of Cauquenes is located in the southwest of the Región del Maule and borders in the north on the province Talca , in the west on the Pacific , in the south on the province Ñuble in the Región del Bío-Bío and in the east on the province Linares .
history
In 1786 the Partido de Cauquenes was formed in the Intendencia de Concepción . When the province of Maule was founded on August 30, 1826 , Cauquenes was designated the capital. At the same time the Delegación de Cauquenes was founded. In 1833 the Departamento de Cauquenes was founded. In the 1970s, today's province of Cauquenes was formed.
