State barge
A splendid launch is a ceremonial ship that is used by high-ranking people, especially monarchs , for processions , ship parades , revues and other formal occasions for transport on the water.
In these barges, a saloon is usually set up at the rear end of the ship, to which national emblems such as a crown or heraldic shields may be placed. The barge is moved by rowers in the front and middle part of the ship; a helmsman is usually elevated behind the saloon at the end of the ship.
The historical barges, some of which are still in use, of the Thai, English and Swedish royal families are well known.
The royal barque procession in Thailand, in which numerous ornate barges are used, has been taking place for more than 700 years. There is a dedicated museum, the National Museum of Royal Barges , for the royal barges.
The English Queen Elizabeth II received the new royal launch "Gloriana" for the parade on her diamond jubilee in 2012 on the Thames .
At the wedding of the Swedish heir to the throne Victoria of Sweden in 2010, a parade took place through Stockholm , in which the center piece with the royal barge “Vasaorden” led across the water around the island of Kastellholmen .
